Guardian Ghost -- Ghost Book Entry

Since enough time has passed and Ghost Book is now officially out of print**, I'd figure I'd finally post my amazingly short story comic from it --Guardian Ghost!

This is the first (and so far only) story I ever wrote where I had both a page limit and a very short deadline, I think? I found out about the project a little late I'm not sure but whichever reason I'll remember later, it was the also the one where I did everything traditionally, except most fonts, greys and tones. Yep, see my attempts at spooooky handwriting up there! Had to do it fast, y'know ;D

I also accidentally ended up making it silent save for the last two pages, sorta. It was mainly because I'm accustomed to making long serial stories, so a short story in FOUR PAGES? Wooo, boy. It almost made me want to move to a cave and meditate on my life choices! The only way I figured out a way to do a complete short comic was to not depend on dialogue--this way, there might have been no plot holes or confusion. Also, I had been wanting to do the silent experiment for a while at the time, SO it all worked out. :3

And I was so happy too that the Ghost Book people loved it, of course! I couldn't stop jumping in the house when I received the acceptance e-mail *_*

Two pieces of trivia that I heavily recommend reading AFTER you read the comic:

• The original title of this was Death and the Guardian Ghost. It makes sense when you read the comic, and was also a callback to the title Death and The Maiden (And that's the only thing, really.) But I thought it was basically a huge spoiler, so nixed the death part.
• The little kid's gender is meant to be ambiguous. You think it's male? Go ahead. You think it's female? Go ahead. Non-binary and all others? Yep-a-roonie, all A-OK. I wanted an ambiguity to the design so that anyone could identify with the character more easily. IDK if it worked but I like to think it did/does.

Hope you guys enjoy reading it! For some reason, a lot of people have and I've gotten lots of compliments on it...which makes me feel good because this is still one of my faves years later. Considering printing it for Meta Con later this year, so keep an eye out for that!
