Someday, I'll Become An Angel

Using the "Schedule" part of uploading submissions for the first time; hopefully it works/worked!

The title comes from one of Umi's image songs, "Itsuka Tenshi ni Nareru" (Someday, I'll Become An Angel). Mainly because 1) it's my fave out of all her image songs and 2) even though there's no angels around, it's the only thing I can think of.

I would have posted this yesterday but since there’s such a thing as Fanart Friday, why not post it today instead? XD This is Umi Ryuuzaki from Magic Knight Rayearth, with her Mashin/Rune God, Selece! (Or as is supposedly correct: Ceres.)

So because I’ve been so busy and have only been making comics and comic-related art, I wanted June to be dedicated to, well, all those things + making fanart. June is my birth month, so I’d considered it as a type of birthday gift for myself. From Rayearth, I was tempted to do all three girls but Umi’s my fave out of all of them. So I chose her instead! It’s funny, because I love Umi as a character, but I love Hikaru’s general designs more. I like her Final Stage outfit,, I wanted her sword as a kid and I still want it To be honest, I wanted all of the Magic Knights' swords, hahaha. Fuu’s good too, but I liked Hikaru’s more.

I also realized, in my search of references pictures, that...the Mashins’ designs were altered for the anime. This is A Thing I didn’t notice until time came for me to draw one 8I Then there’s the realistic OVA version, of course...Yeesh. Ultimately, I tried to do a mix of manga and TV anime details for Selece. I did add the head gem from the OVA version though!

His wings got covered and they were done so prettily imo sobs.

I didn’t get to finish this for my birthday, which happened to be this week but! I’m still proud because I did a couple of different coloring things and effects--especially the jewels and Selece’s "sword”--plus I drew a giant robot! I don’t think I’ve ever drawn mecha like this before, so it was good practice!

Another thing I did differently: drawing and coloring these two separately. I’d drawn the initial sketch idea with them together but I got scared over the amount of coloring layers and general color confusion (so...much...blue...) that I decided to do them separately. A good thing too, because Selece’s file ended up being about 1.5GB I might upload the both of them individually, if anyone is interested? Eh.

This is another one of those few pictures I actually want to make into a print, disregarding my self-imposed “no fanart merch” rule...oh, well.
